  • PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship to host its largest field
    The 22nd PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship is set to feature the largest field in the history of this prestigious National Championship, which will be staged for the 11th consecutive year at The PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla., May 9-11, 2008.


  • Larry Smith selected as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Alcorn State
    Alcorn State Athletic Director, Dr. Darren J. Hamilton introduced Larry Smith as the new head men's basketball coach at a press conference today. Thunderous applause rang throughout the room when Smith took his place behind the podium to address the audience.

  • Virginia Union releases 2008 Football Schedule
    The 2008 football schedule released by the VUU department of athletics is compromised of 10 regular-season contests, including 3 non-conference match-ups.


  • W.C. Gorden and Doug Porter to be inducted into College Football HOF
    Former Jackson State coach W.C. Gorden and former Mississippi Valley, Howard and Fort Valley mentor Doug Porter are HBCU products included in this year's Divisional College Football Hall of Fame Class. The Class considers players and coaches from NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA), Divisions II, III, and the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) for induction. Four players and two coaches were selected for induction this year.

  • MEAC announces 2008 Softball All-Conference Team
    Howard University outfielder Courtney Young was named the Player of the Year as the MEAC announced its 2008 All-Conference Softball honors during a pre-tournament banquet Wednesday night at the Center for Civic Engagement on the campus of Bethune-Cookman University.

  • Broncos and Trojans finish 6th and 8th at NCAA Golf Super Regional
    Fayetteville State and Virginia State finished part 1 of a unique golf double event with sixth and eight place finishes in the NCAA Division II Southeast/Atlantic Super Regional in Belmont, NC.

  • St Aug selectes Lonnie Blow Jr. as head men's basketball coach
    Saint Augustine’s College has named Lonnie Blow Jr. as its new head men’s basketball coach. The announcement came during a press conference today on campus.


  • LeDawn Gibson appointed women's basketball coach at FAMU
    Florida A&M University has announced that LeDawn S. Gibson, the former head girls basketball coach at nationally-regarded Winter Haven (Fla.) High School had been appointed the school’s new women’s basketball coach.


  • JSU Tigers to compete in 2008 NCAA D-I Golf Championships
    The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee has selected the teams and individuals to participate in the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships and the Jackson State Tigers will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. for the NCAA golf regional tournament May 15-17.
