Elizabeth City State Releases 2002 Football ScheduleApril 15, 2002ELIZABETH CITY, NC-The Elizabeth City State University Athletic Department has announced a schedule of 10 games for the 2002 football season. The Vikings will host 4 games at home and 5 on the road with the 4th annual Down East Viking Football Classic slated for September 14 in Rocky Mount, NC. On August 29, the Vikings will travel to Kutztown, PA to face the Golden Bears of Kutztown University. Last season the Vikings dropped their season opener at home 40-12. The match-up will represent the only non-conference opponent the Vikings will face in 2002. On September 7, the Mighty Vikings will open up at home versus the Panthers of Virginia Union University and on September 14 the Fayetteville State Broncos will join the Vikings in Rocky Mount, NC for the Down East Viking Football Classic. This will mark the third time that the Broncos and Vikings have squared off in the classic held at the Rocky Mount Athletic Complex. On September 28 the Vikings will travel to face the Eagles of North Carolina Central at a site that has yet to be determined. The Vikings will be at Roebuck Stadium for the first two Saturdays of October as they will host Johnson C. Smith on the 5th and Virginia State on the 12th. On October 19 the Vikings will travel to Bowie, MD to clash with the Bulldogs of Bowie State. They will finish the month of October on the 26th at Livingstone College. Last season the Vikings 37-22 win over the Blue Bears stood as their only victory over a conference opponent. The Vikings will return to Elizabeth City for Homecoming 2002 on November 2 when they play host to the Saint Augustine’s College Falcons.
