Former student assistant named Assistant SID at Bethune-CookmanAugust 21, 2001Daytona Beach, FL - Opio Mashariki has been named assistant sports information director (interim) at Bethune-Cookman College. He will serve as the primary contact for women's and Olympic sports, assisting sports information director Charles D. Jackson. Mashariki, who earned his bachelor's degree from Bethune-Cookman in mass communications (public relations) in May 2001, served as a student assistant in the sports information office from August 1999 to May 2001 as the contact for men's basketball and content developer for various media guides. He was public relations director at Allen AME Church in Daytona Beach prior to taking the position at B-CC. "Opio is a trememdous asset to our department," Jackson said. "he's an outstanding writer and brings a great deal of enthusiasm, dedication and professionalism." Mashariki replaces Beth Goodroe, who resigned in March to become the college's grants writer for the Center for Information and Technology.
