Daymond Lindell named WSSU head women's basketball coachAugust 23, 2001Winston-Salem, NC - Daymond Lindell, head women's basketball coach and director of student activities at Voorhees College, in Denmark, South Carolina, has been named Winston-Salem State University's head women's basketball coach, effective August 22.
Lindell replaced Debra Clark, who resigned in April to accept a coaching position at Florida A&M University, a Division I program. Lindell has served as head women's basketball coach and director of student activities at Voorhees College since 2000. There, he compiled the best record in the college's history, with a 24-8 record. He was named Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (EIAC) 2000-20001 Coach of the Year. His team was ranked 10th in the nation and qualified for the NAIA National Championship in Jackson, TN. "We feel very fortunate to have found a coach with his recent record of achievement," said Dr. Percy Caldwell, who was recently named WSSU's athletics director. "He comes to us with a proven ability to build a solid program. Coming in late as the new athletics director, I feel indeed we are off to a good start." Prior to becoming head coach at Voorhees, Lindell was an associate head coach at Barton College in Wilson, NC and spend four years as an assistant coach at Elizabeth City State University. The Queens, NY native played football in the Atlantic Coast Conference at N.C. State University. Lindell earned two bachelor's degrees from NCSU in 1991 in Business and Sports Management.
