Stillman Linebacker Receives Second HP All American Honor

TUSCALOOSA-- Stillman College linebacker Brenden Givan continues to be one of the bright spots for the Tiger football program. With his outstanding play, Givan was recently named to the 2001 Hewlett-Packard Division III All-American defensive third team.

The Birmingham, AL native turned in another solid season for Stillman as he recorded 91 total tackles, 29 tackles for loss for 155 yards, 13 sacks, and an interception returned for a touchdown.

A panel of 30 sports information directors representing the four-playoff regions in NCAA Division III selected the 24th annual team. The ballot included 423 players representing 160 of the 228 NCAA Division III (non-scholarship) football-playing institutions.

Givan became Stillman's first football All-American selection last season as a sophomore, when he received an HP Honorable Mention and a D3football.com Third Team All-American nod. In 2000 he finished with 131 total tackles and 18 sacks.

This season Stillman played a mostly Division II football schedule, while remaining a Division III institution. The Tigers finished 2001 with a 6-3 record.

Givan was a key contributor to a Stillman defense that was ranked 18th in total defense this season, allowing 247 yards per game. Stillman was also ranked seventh in rushing defense and 21st in pass efficiency defense.

For the third consecutive year Givan led Stillman in total tackles, tackles for a loss and quarterback sacks. According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association Final Statistics for the 2001 season, Givan is ranked sixth in sacks and 11th in tackles for a loss.
