Witherspoon Relieved of Duties at Clark AtlantaJune 3, 2002After nine seasons as Head Men's Basketball Coach, Anthony Witherspoon was relieved of his coaching duties at Clark Atlanta University on June 3, 2002. Witherspoon's departure follows a season in which the Panthers finished with a 10-15 record. Seven of the 15 losses resulted from self-reporting to the NCAA the use of two ineligible players during the course of the season. CAU finished the 2000-2001 season with a 13-16 record. "While we appreciate the effort Coach Witherspoon made on behalf of the program, we felt like the men's basketball program was beginning to regress instead of moving forward. In order to stop the apparent slide, a change in leadership was necessary," said CAU Director of Athletics Brenda Edmond. During his tenure at CAU, Witherspoon accumulated a 231-182 record and led the Panthers to one NCAA Regional Playoff appearance.
