N.C. A&T Terminates Director of AthleticsJune 3, 2002GREENSBORO, NC - North Carolina A&T State University Chancellor James C. Renick has announced a leadership change in the Athletic Department.
"Effective today, our vice chancellor for student affairs, Dr. Roselle L. Wilson, will also serve as interim athletics director at N.C. A&T," Renick said. Dr. Alfonso Scandrett Jr. had served as athletics director at A&T since July 6, 1999. A national search for a new athletics director will begin in the near future with hopes of the successor starting this fall. Wilson is a seasoned educator with a understanding of the responsibilities associated with athletics and the NCAA. She has been connected with athletics as a top administrator in student affairs at several universities. "We have confidence in her leadership as an administrator with years of experience in student affairs and athletics," Renick said. "We look forward to seeing her build stronger relationships between A&T and our alumni, students, parents and athletic supporters."
"I am here to serve A&T in whatever capacity I can," Wilson said this morning. "We are setting up meetings to listen and talk with those in athletics and those associated with athletics. When you look at our competitive schedule, upcoming renovations, new construction…there are just so many new possibilities for our athletics program to grow and accomplish…I feel the logical next step is an exciting, successful season for Aggies! Wilson left retirement in November 2000 to lead A&T's Division of Student Affairs following the retirement of Dr. Sullivan A. Welborne Jr. She previously served as vice president for student affairs at Rutgers University's three campuses located in Camden, Newark and New Brunswick, NJ. Prior to Rutgers, Wilson was assistant to the vice president for student affairs and services and coordinator for multicultural training and development at Michigan State University-East Lansing. She was also an adjunct assistant professor.
