Stillman College Releases 2002 Football ScheduleJune 17, 2002TUSCALOOSA, AL---After posting its second consecutive 6-3 season in 2001 the Stillman College Tiger football team continues to establish itself as a legitimate contender in Black College Football. Veteran head coach Theophilus Danzy continues to guide the Tigers on their ascension. In its fourth year of play Stillman will play its most difficult schedule to date. "I can't worry about the schedule," said head football coach Theophilus Danzy. "Me and my staff have to make sure that those players that have produced for us these last three years are ready to play at their highest level each week. We also have to do a good job in recruiting to fill in any blank spots that we may have." The Tigers are set to play a ten game schedule for the 2002 season. Stillman will start the season with three straight home games. The Tigers will open the season against Allen University on August 31. Stillman will then host the University of West Alabama on September 7 and Livingstone College on September 14. On September 21 the Tigers will hit the road for the first time of the season as they travel to Jackson, TN to face Lane College. From Jackson the Tigers will continue on to Newberry, SC to face Newberry College on September 28. Stillman will start October with the first of two Classic games in that month. On October 5 the Tigers will take I-20/59 to Birmingham to face rival Miles College in the second annual Steel City Classic to be played at historic Legion Field. In last season's Inaugural Steel City Classic the Golden Bears slipped past the Tigers for a 24-22 win. Next the Tigers travel to Jefferson City, MO to face Lincoln University on October 12. For the October 19 game date Stillman will then return to Stillman Stadium to host Texas Southern University in the Druid City Classic. The November 2 game against Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL will mark the final road game of the season for Stillman. Stillman's homecoming game is scheduled for November 9 against Benedict College. As they did last season the Division III Tigers will play a mainly Division II schedule.
