Annual Black College Basketball All-Star Classic Postponed

March 10, 2002

(Baltimore, MD) Target Sports Marketing has announced that it has officially postponed the Seventh Annual Black College All-Star Basketball Classic (BCABC), until April 2003.  The US economy is experiencing a very volatile economic climate, in the wake of the tragedy of September 11. Many US companies have cut marketing budgets and reduced corporate spending, including allocating event marketing support. As a result, many worthy events, including the annual All-Star Classic did not receive support.

“We are committed to the future of this event, as the economy rebuilds, so will the All-Star Classic, we will be bigger and better in 2003,” said Executive Producer, LaShun Lawson. “The difficulty lies in the fact that this year’s talent pool will miss out on this unique opportunity to showcase their talents, but there was really no way to avoid the postponement; we simply did not receive sufficient support this year.”  The sponsors/supporters that were secured include, Budweiser, FOOTACTION, WB-54 Baltimore, MBC Network and Visionary Marketing Group of Baltimore, each company has committed for 2003.

Established in 1996, the annual classic showcases the talent of Division I and Division II graduating athletes from Historically Black Colleges and Universities before professional NBA basketball scouts and a national television viewing audience.  Participants in the game are competing seniors in one of the four sports conferences:  MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), CIAA  (Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) SWAC  (Southwestern Athletic Conference) and SIAC  (South Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

The Association of Black College Sports Information Directors, along with the NBA scouting office, selects the players based on overall performance as an individual and team player, during the participant’s college basketball career.

The BCABC is the only sporting event of its kind that supports and promotes athletes from HBCU’s and it continues to provide quality fun and excitement for the entire family.   The Classic is televised each year on select regional sports cable networks including Fox Sports Network affiliates, reaching over 30 million cable households across the country!
