Tuskegee Golden Tigers Open 10-Game Football Schedule Aug 31

Tuskegee, AL - The 2001 defending SIAC football champions, Tuskegee University, open a 10-game schedule August 31 against the Clark Atlanta University Panthers. Kickoff for the SIAC contest is 1:30 p.m. in Atlanta.

Benedict College, a newcomer to the SIAC, is the only new opponent on the Golden Tigers 2002 schedule. Coach Rick Comegy’s Golden Tigers defeated Benedict 25 - 13 in 1999, the last time the Tigers faced the South Carolina team.

Eight of the 10 opponents on the 2002 schedule (+) are members of the SIAC, Winston-Salem State University is a CIAA team, and the Alabama State University Hornets are SWAC contenders.

The Tuskegee University Golden Tigers play six of their 10 games away from the campus and four in Cleve Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium.

Following their season opener August 31 against Clark Atlanta University, the Golden Tigers take on Winston-Salem State University, September 7; Miles College, September 21; Benedict College, October 5; Albany State University, October 12; Morehouse College, October 19; Fort Valley State, October 26; Lane College, November 2; Kentucky State University, November 9; and Alabama State University, November 28.

Miles, Benedict, Albany State and Lane are the home games. Lane is the homecoming foe, November 2. The Golden Tigers defeated Lane last year, 35 - 0 in Jackson, TN.

The Golden Tigers finished the 2001 season with an 11 - 1 record, the SIAC Championship, and a 28 - 0 victory in the postseason Pioneer Bowl against Virginia Union University. The team’s only loss was a 14 - 3 decision to the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College in the 66th Annual Classic between the two schools.
