Alabama A&M Picks Women's Basketball CoachMay 18, 2002Alabama A&M University has hired Altherias Warmley as its next head women's basketball coach.
She was one of three finalists and was offerred the position by A&M president John Gibson. The other two finalists were Alabama State women's assistant Clayton Harris and Lawson State women's coach Eleanor Pitts. Warmley replaces Press Parham, who was fired in March. Parham had been a part of Alabama A&M athletics for 24 years after arriving in 1978 as the head baseball coach and assistant men's basketball coach. He had just completed his 20th season at the head of the program. During that time he has accumulated 323 wins in his career. Despite his successes, the Lady Bulldogs had endured five straight losing seasons since winning twenty games in 1998 and advancing to the NCAA Division II play-offs. The Lady Bulldogs have an overall record of 33-89 since moving to the Division I ranks following the 1998 season. Warmley, who will be paid between $60-$70,000, is expected to retain current interim coach Dexter Holt annd will be paid between $60-70,000 annually.
