Hampton Alum Earns National Officiating AwardMay 14, 2002
Hampton, VA - Hampton University alumnus and college basketball official Larry Rose has been named the 2002 Naismith Men's Official of the Year. The award, given by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, honors the top college basketball official as chosen by Division I NCAA Basketball Supervisors of Officials. The selection is conducted by the people who deal with officiating daily and the driteria for selection is based totally on performance. Rose has officiated college basketball in almost every major conference, including the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Big Ten, Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Big Twelve. He has also been an official for both the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) During his career, Rose has been invited to officiate in the NCAA Tournament
on numerous occasions, including twelve Sweet Sixteens, five Regional
Finals and four Final Fours. He also has been invited to officiate in
the National Invitational Tournament (NIT) ten times.
