Albany State Lady Rams earn regional volleyball tournament berthNovember 12, 2001The Albany State University Lady Rams, the defending Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) volleyball champions, will make their first-ever appearance in the South Central Regional tournament of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Volleyball Championships this week. The Lady Rams, ranked sixth in the South Central Region, will play the third-ranked Central Missouri State University Jennies (Warrensburg, Mo) on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 5 p.m. (cst). The tournament will be held at Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. The winner of the Albany State - Central Missouri State match will play the University of North Alabama. Truman State will play the winner of the University of Alabama-Huntsville and Henderson State University match. The winners of those two matches will compete for the South Central Region championship and advance to the finals, which will be held Nov. 29-Dec. 1. The Lady Rams team is one of 48 teams to be invited to participate in the single-elimination tournament and one of eight teams making their first appearance in the tournament. Only the top six teams of the eight Division II regions were invited to the tournament. Albany State is the SIAC team to compete in the regional tournament. The Lady Rams finished their regular season with a 23-9 overall record.
