| MEAC All-Conference Football Team Announced Maurice Hicks selected as Offensive Player of the Year November 27, 2001 GREENSBORO, NC - North Carolina A&T State University runningback, Maurice Hicks, has been voted by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference head football coaches, sports information directors and selected media as the Offensive Player of the Year, he was also named to the All-MEAC First-Team. Hicks was injured in the Aggies 42-35 win over Jackson State in the Peach State Classic. In eight games Hicks out-rushed all other MEAC runningbacks by gaining 1,325 yards and scored a conference leading 15 touchdowns. The 6-foot 205-pound senior also broke the NCAA Division l, l-AA and Div. ll rushing record this season by gaining 437 yards against Morgan State. Tracy White, last year's MEAC defensive player of the year, has once again been selected as the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-foot, 230-pound junior linebacker finished the season with 108 tackles and eight sacks, which places him at second and sixth in those categories in the MEAC statistics. His sack total ranks him tied for ninth in the NCAA statistics. The Offensive Lineman of the Year is Qasim Mitchell from North Carolina A&T. The 6-foot-6, 350-pound junior guard has been instrumental all season long in the scheme of the Aggies offense. They finished the 2001 season ranked first in the MEAC in scoring (34.0 points per game) and third in rushing offense (211.4 yds per game). Timothy Frazier of Hampton University was selected as the MEAC Rookie of the Year. He completed 88 of 172 pass attempts and threw seven touchdown passes for the Pirates. He received his chance to play when Ateveus Cash went down with an injury.
