Bethune-Cookman vs. Savannah State game set to playSeptember 12, 2001DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The scheduled football game between Savannah State University and Bethune-Cookman College set for 5 p.m. Saturday in Fort Lauderdale will be played as scheduled, the school announced Wednesday. After a meeting with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Council of Athletic Directors, B-CC Athletic Director Lynn Thompson said: "The council of athletic directors unanimously recommended playing the games this weekend. This decision was based on the President of the United States urging all of us to return to normalcy. All extracurricular activities at the college were postponed Tuesday after the tragic explosions at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and other sites. B-CC President Oswald P. Bronson, who held a campus-wide assembly Wednesday morning to pray for the victims and their families, said: "The College will continue a prayer vigil and efforts to memorialize the victims, but will also move cautiously back to normal operations. Thompson said: "Barring another unforeseen development or mandates from the White House, the game will proceed as planned." The B-CC golf team will participate this weekend at Elon College in Myrtle Beach, S.C., while the school's cross country team travels to Florida International University for an invitational meet. The B-CC volleyball team, scheduled to play at the Florida State University tournament, will not participate. FSU cancelled the tournament.
