NCCU's Glosova gets Regional Scholar AwardSeptember 12, 2001TROY, MI -- North Carolina Central University cross country/track & field junior Katerina Glosova has been selected as the recipient of the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association Women's South Atlantic Region Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. A male and female Division II Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be chosen from the 16 regional winners, eight men and eight women. Glosova boasts a 3.96 overall grade point average with a major in Hospitality and Tourism. A native of Cernotin, Czech Republic, she is the reigning two-time Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Cross Country Champion and is a four-time CIAA Outdoor Track Champion, claiming back-to-back titles in the 1500 and 3000 meter runs. Glosova was also named the 2000 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year. "This achievement is representative of our vision for our student-athletes to excel academically," said NCCU Director of Athletics Lin Dawson. "Katerina has worked extremely hard in the classroom, on the track and in the community. We are very proud of her accomplishments." This award, sponsored by Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, provides the opportunity for Division II to highlight the extraordinary achievements of its student-athletes. DII CCA President and Commissioner of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tom Brown explains that the award showcases the talent at the NCAA Division II level. "Division II has the best of both worlds," explains Brown, "great athletes and great students." Joining Glosova in the women's regional winners are Deanna Benhfeldt (Findlay); Emily Bloss (Emporia State); Jennifer Higgins (St. Cloud State); Jill Razor (Rollins); Kim Rochon (West Chester); Debbie Sant'Anna (Hawaii Pacific); and Sherran Wilson (Dowling). The national award winners will be announced in late September.
