Fort Valley State University Releases 2003 Football Schedule

April 15, 2003

Fort Valley State University has released its 2003 Football Schedule. The Wildcats, under new head coach John Morgan, will play an eleven game schedule. Included in the schedule are eight Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games, three classics, and two special event home contests.

The 2003 football season will also see the Wildcats pick up two new opponents. Fort Valley will kick the season off in Griffin against Morehouse College (Aug. 30). Perennial CIAA frontrunner Winston-Salem State (Sept. 6, Macon) replaces Valdosta State, and Stillman College, which recently moved up from Division III, replaces Savannah State. Lane College will play in Fort Valley on Sept. 13. In addition to two new opponents, Fort Valley will play four games at neutral sites, including Brunswick, Georgia, which will host the inaugural Stan Lomax Gold Coast Classic on September, 27. There, the Wildcats will face the Panthers of Clark-Atlanta University in a game that could shape up to be a key SIAC match-up.

Alcorn State University, the only I-AA opponent the ‘Cats face this year; will pay a visit to Fort Valley State on Oct. 4th. The next week (Oct. 11) Fort Valley will host the Golden Bears of Miles College as High School/Pan-Hellenic/Take a Kid to a Game Day will be celebrated. After two consecutive road games at Benedict (Oct. 18) and Tuskegee (Oct. 25), Fort Valley will close out the home portion of its schedule against Stillman College (Nov. 1), which will also be Homecoming. Fort Valley closes out the regular season with a road game at Kentucky State (Nov. 8) and the annual Fountain City Classic against Albany State in Columbus (Nov. 15).

Last season, the Wildcats were 7-4 overall and 6-2 in SIAC play. For information on tickets, call (478) 825-6532. 2003 FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY WILDCAT FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
