January 28, 2003

Albany State University (ASU) Athletics Director Dr. John I. Davis and Head Football Coach James "Mike" White have announced the 2003 Golden Rams football schedule.

Albany State's 11-game slate includes four home games at Hugh Mills Memorial Stadium, two football classics and two games against teams from different conferences, Davis said.

"The Golden Rams are looking forward to another exciting season this year. We promised our fans and supporters an exciting 2002 season and we delivered," Davis said. "We need our alumni and supporters to help us financially to ensure a continued first-class program."

The Golden Rams, who will be on the road for the first five games, will kickoff the season against Gulf South Conference foe, Valdosta State University Blazers, on Aug. 30 in Valdosta. The team will travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face the Miles College Golden Bears in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game on Sept. 6. ASU will hit the road to Carrollton to face another Gulf South Conference foe, State University of West Georgia Braves on Sept. 13.

The Golden Rams will travel to Jackson, Tenn., to face the Lane College Dragons in an SIAC match-up on Sept. 27 before meeting the Savannah State University Tigers in the Sixth Annual Music City Classic in Macon, Ga. on Oct. 4. The game is sponsored annually by the 100 Black Men of Macon.

The Golden Rams will have two back-to-back home games against SIAC rivals on Oct. 11 against the Tuskegee University Tigers and on Oct. 18 against the Kentucky State University Thorobreds. ASU will visit Clark Atlanta University to face the Panthers in an SIAC dual on Oct. 25.
