TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY, AL – The recently resigned Athletic
Director and Head Football Coach Rick Comegy has been reappointed
to those positions by President Benjamin F. Payton and indicates
that he is “ready to get back to work” after returning
Tuesday to lead the Golden Tigers that he guided to 64 victories.

Comegy, who was the unanimous choice of the Search Committee
and of President Payton, was reappointed by President Payton
as AD and Head Football Coach Tuesday, Jan. 7.
“I am delighted that Coach Comegy has decided to reconsider
his decision and remain at Tuskegee. Certainly this is good
news for Tuskegee, which has always highly regarded Coach Comegy
and his tremendous achievements,” Payton said.
Comegy said his decision was not based upon finances or any
other negotiations related to his five-year contract with Tuskegee
but rather upon his love for his family, Tuskegee and his respect
and admiration for Tuskegee President Payton.
“The respect and support I get from this institution
and this community helped me decide that the best place for
me was Tuskegee,” Comegy said. “I have great friendships
and
people who care about me here. I have a supportive President
and loyal people around me who have been good people to me.
I feel comfortable here. This is my family.”
Comegy, who has been Head Football Coach and Athletic Director
at Tuskegee for seven years, begins again immediately.
“We insist on excellence, not only in classrooms, in
our research labs, and in our community outreach programs, but
also in athletics,” Payton said. “That commitment
won’t change. We are happy with Coach Comegy’s decision.
Now it’s time for business as usual, and our business
is winning.”
