Names Interim Women's Track & Field Coach

Hampton, VA – Former Assistant Women’s Track &
Field coach, Maurice Pierce, has been named as the new interim
Head Coach for Women’s Track & Field program at Hampton
University.
“We are pleased to promote Coach Pierce to the interim
Women’s Track & Field head coach position,” announced
Director of Athletics Dr. Dennis Thomas. “We feel that he
will do an excellent job in moving our program higher, both athletically
and academically.”
Pierce takes over the program after serving three years under
former head coach, Mamie Rallins. Rallins resigned on June 14
to accept a similar position at Chicago State University.
“I am excited and honored about the opportunity to coach
at a Division I school, and a great institution like Hampton University,”
states Pierce. “I couldn’t ask for anything better
at this point in my life. I have wanted to be a head coach since
I started out in this field, and it has paid off for me in the
best possible way imaginable.”
Prior to arriving at Hampton University, Pierce served as the
Assistant Head Coach for Women’s and Men’s Track &
Field at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in Princess
Anne. From 1996-98, he was he Assistant Head Coach for Women’s
Track & Field at Norfolk State University.
Pierce is a native of Newport News, Virginia. A four-year letterman
in Men’s Track and Field, Pierce received his bachelor’s
degree from Norfolk State University in 1996.
