Fred
Manuel Named Interim Head Football Coach At Lincoln
July 23, 2002
Jefferson City, MO – Lincoln University has named Fred Manuel
as interim head football coach effective immediately. Manuel replaces
Jack Bush at the helm of the gridiron Blue Tigers. The announcement
was made by Theressa Ferguson, LU athletics director.
Bush was placed on administrative leave earlier this month
by LU president David Henson following his arrest on a misdemeanor
assault charge involving one of Bush's former assistant coaches.
In a statement issued following the arrest, Henson stated that
Bush would be relieved of his duties as head football coach at
the end of the month.
For the past three seasons, Manuel has been assistant head
coach and defensive coordinator. He guided his defense to be 12th
best in the country in the NAIA in 2000. Last season making the
jump back to NCAA Division II, the defense posted the 12th best
Pass Efficiency Defense and was 30th overall in Total Defense.
With Manuel's appointment, David Mitchell has been promoted
to assistant head coach and offensive coordinator and Lemar Parrish
has been retained as the defensive backs coach for the Blue Tigers.
LU football camp begins on Monday, August 12th with two-a-days
to gear up for the 2002 season. The season home opener will be
Saturday, August 31st at home in Dwight T. Reed Stadium against
the Mules of Central Missouri State University.
