Barber-Scotia and Claflin Take EIAC Basketball Tournament Titles

Fayetteville, NC -- Barber-Scotia College won the men's Eastern
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (EIAC) basketball tournament
title and Claflin University took the women's crown. The event
was held in Fayetteville, NC February 28 through March 2 at
the Cumberland County Arena. B-SC held off Edward Waters College
64-60 in the nightcap, while Claflin defeated the Edward Waters'
women 53-48 in the opener. Both teams earned the league's automatic
berth to the NAIA national championships.
Phillip Hillstock had 14 and a game-high 13 rebounds to lead
B-SC and was voted the tournament Most Valuable Player. His
coach, James Stinson, was named most outstanding tournament
coach.

74; Claflin 74, Allen University 68; Saturday- Barber-Scotia
74, Morris 54; Edward Waters 102, Claflin 76; Sunday- Barber-Scotia
64, Edward Waters 60.
The Claflin ladies were led by tournament MVP Tamara Middleton
who had 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Miriam Walker-Samuels
of Claflin was tabbed most outstanding tournament coach.
