Shaw, Fort Valley State and Fayetteville State Women Get Playoff

Three HBCU women's basketball teams have received invitations
to the NCAA Division II Playoffs. The 64 team field was announced
Sunday night.
CIAA Champion Shaw University and SIAC Champ Fort Valley State
received automatic bids to the tournament by winning
their conference championships. Fayetteville State received
an at-large bid.
Shaw (29-2) and FSU (20-8) will play in the South Atlantic
Regional hosted by Catawba College in Salisbury, NC while Fort
Valley State (27-3) will participate in the South Regional hosted
by Arkansas Tech in Russellville, AR.
Regional play begins Friday March 14 with semifinals scheduled
for Saturday, March 15 and the finals set for Monday, March
17.
The South Atlantic Regional will have Shaw, the top seed, meeting
#8 Lenoir Rhyne (18-11) in a quarterfinal matchup. Fayetteville
State, seeded #5, will face #4 Catawba (24-6). Should Shaw and
Fayetteville State win, they would face each other in the regional
semifinals.
Fort Valley State enters its regional as the #2 seed and will
face #7 Henderson State (19-9).
The regional champions will advance to the Women's Elite Eight
March 26, 27 and 29 at the St. Joseph Civic Arena in St. Joseph,
Missouri. Missouri Western State College will host the Elite
Eight.
