Lincoln (MO) Football Blue Tigers On the Road Again in 2003
May 22, 2003
Jefferson City, MO - The Lincoln University Blue Tiger Football program
finds itself away from home most of the season this fall. "We are clearing up
past commitments and as a result many road games in store for the Gridiron
Blue Tigers," said Director of Athletics, Patric Simon. Simon went on to
add, "Our men will be up to the task and it looks to be an exciting season
for Coach Fred Manual and his men".
The Blue Tigers will open the season against two former MIAA Conference
foes; the season-opener is set for Thursday, August 28th against Central
Missouri State University and then at Pittsburg State University (KS) on
September 6th. Middle-September has Lincoln in the south for meetings with
Tuskegee University (AL) and Lane College (TN). Oklahoma Panhandle State
University will see the end of the opening five game road stand in Goodwell.
New this year is the First Annual Dwight T. Reed Classic, LU will host the
Lions of Langston University. "What not a better way to honor the legend
himself, Coach Reed, the winningest football coach of all time at LU and an
import historic figure in Lincoln Athletics," said Pat Simon. The following
weekend the football team stays home as Homecoming hits the LU campus, as
the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State University will battle the mighty
Blue Tigers at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.
The season will wrap up with four games with a mini tour of America with
visits to St. Joseph's College (IN) and Allen University (SC) to close out
the Saturday's in October. In November the Blue Tigers will play Division
I-AA Southern University (LA) in Baton Rouge and end the regular season
under the roof of the Dakota Dome at University of South Dakota. "This
season will be a heck of a challenge for a program still growing," commented
Coach Fred Manual about the upcoming season. "With a good mix of veteran
returnees and talented newcomers this Blue Tiger squad should turn some
heads as we invade the stadiums of our opponents," added Coach Manual.
The 2003 football season to kick-off Thursday, August 28th, 7:00pm at
Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO to face the Mules at
