Morgan State Announces New Softball Coach
September 30, 2002
The Morgan State University softball team will be under new leadership
for the upcoming season. Former Norfolk State University Assistant
Coach Kara Campbell is taking over the reigns as the new Head
Coach at MSU. She becomes the 3rd softball coach in the history
of the program. Campbell replaces Ramona Riley-Bozier, who will
continue as the volleyball coach at Morgan State. Coach Riley-Bozier
had been both volleyball and softball coach at Morgan State since
1996. Coach Campbell says, "I am deeply appreciative of Morgan
State in general and Coach Riley-Bozier in particular for believing
in me enough to recommend me for this position. I plan to work
hard to live up to the trust they've placed in me".
Coach Campbell says she's excited about the opportunity to take Morgan State University softball to the next level. " Thanks to Coach Bozier, I believe all the ingredients are in place to have a great season this year and beyond. I believe we're going to win, and I think we're going to win immediately. The team is talented and the coaching staff will work hard to maximize that talent".
Kara "KC" Campbell says she will be looking to attract talented young ladies to Morgan State who are serious about academics and serious about softball. Coach Campbell wants student/athletes who are willing to work hard and want to have fun. "It's my belief that with talent, hard work and a strong attitude you can make things happen."
Campbell is a native of Trinidad & Tobago, but spent her high school years in Northern Virginia at Washington & Lee High School. She got her first taste of softball during her high school years, and took to the sport immediately. Coach Campbell was a natural leader who won Team MVP, and All-District recognition throughout her high school career. Kara also played extensively in Arlington, VA and Fairfax County summer league teams.
She spent her collegiate career at Norfolk State University
('97-'99,'01). She was a versatile player who pitched and also
played 1st and 2nd base. Her ability to communicate and her leadership
skills led to a position as an Assistant Coach at Norfolk State
after her playing days were complete.
Campbell describes her coaching style as; "Serious and effective". She's looking
to mold a team that is dedicated to winning. It's an attitude
she's hoping will permeate throughout the entire program.
