Black College Football Awards Banquet To Be Held February

(New York, N.Y.) – In celebration
of its 30th anniversary, American Urban Radio Networks (AURN)
will bring its popular Black College All-American awards banquet
to New York City.
The Black College All-American banquet will be held on February
12, 2004 at the Sheraton Towers Hotel in New York.

We are excited about bringing one of our premiere events to
New York,” said Jerry Lopes, President, Program Operations
and Affiliates. “AURN has been recognizing the achievements
of athletes at Black Colleges since the network started. We
are pleased and proud to host the awards banquet that honors
the top offensive, defensive and coach of the year. There is
no better place to celebrate our anniversary and salute these
talented athletes than New York. The student-athletes are excited
about coming to New York. We look forward to a great event.”
The Black College All-American Awards banquet, which marks
its 30th anniversary, recognizes and celebrates the achievements
of student-athletes who play football at America’s Historically
Black Colleges and Universities.
The 2003 Black College All-American team will be selected on
January 15, 2004. Special awards will be presented for the
SBN Sports Doug Williams Offensive Player of the Year, SBN
Sports Mel Blount Defensive Player of the Year, SBN Sports
Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year and National Black College
Champions.
Nearly 200 SBN Sports Black College All-Americans have gone
on to play in the National Football League and 19 of those
players were inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame including:
Michael Strahan, New York Giants (Texas Southern ’92);
Harry Carson, former New York Giants (South Carolina State ’75)
and Football Hall of Fame inductees Walter Payton, Art Shell
and Mel Blount among others.
