December 4, 2003

GREENSBORO, N.C. –- MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas has been selected to the 2003 Southwestern Athletic Conference Hall of Fame, announced the SWAC Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Commissioner Thomas and seven others will be honored during the induction ceremonies on Friday, December 12 at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.

This year’s inductees will also be honored at halftime of the SWAC Football Championship game on Saturday, December 13 at 1 p.m.

“I am elated about being selected to the SWAC Hall of Fame and thankful that people thought enough of my accomplishments to be inducted,” Commissioner Thomas said.

A 1974 graduate of Alcorn State University, Commissioner Thomas was a two-time First Team Pittsburgh Courier All-American at center for Alcorn State (1973, 1974). In 1973, Thomas was the SWAC Offensive Most Valuable Player, the first and only time an offensive lineman received MVP honors in the SWAC.

Commissioner Thomas received his Master’s Degree from the University of Louisiana-Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana University) in 1975 and his Doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
