GREENSBORO, N.C. –- MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas has
been selected to the 2003 Southwestern Athletic Conference Hall
of Fame, announced the SWAC Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
Commissioner Thomas and seven others will be honored during
the induction ceremonies on Friday, December 12 at the Sheraton
Birmingham Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama.
This year’s inductees will also be honored at halftime
of the SWAC Football Championship game on Saturday, December
13 at 1 p.m.
“I am elated about being selected to the SWAC Hall of
Fame and thankful that people thought enough of my accomplishments
to be inducted,” Commissioner Thomas said.
A 1974 graduate of Alcorn State University, Commissioner Thomas
was a two-time First Team Pittsburgh Courier All-American at
center for Alcorn State (1973, 1974). In 1973, Thomas was the
SWAC Offensive Most Valuable Player, the first and only time
an offensive lineman received MVP honors in the SWAC.
Commissioner Thomas received his Master’s Degree from
the University of Louisiana-Monroe (formerly Northeast Louisiana
University) in 1975 and his Doctorate from the State University
of New York at Buffalo.
