Stillman Adds Two Home Games to 2003 Football Schedule
July 30, 2003
TUSCALOOSA--- The Stillman College Athletics Department has
added two home games to the 2003 football schedule. The Tigers
will host Georgia State University on Aug. 30 and Lincoln
University on Oct. 24.
With the two additions the Tigers have an 11 games schedule,
four of which will be played on the Stillman campus. As an
NCAA Division II provisional member Stillman can schedule
up to 11 football games, in addition to providing athletic
scholarships for all sports that the college sponsors.
Before the addition of the two contests Stillman had a nine
game schedule, with two being played in Tuscaloosa.
The Aug. 30 contest will be the first meeting between Stillman
and Georgia State University. Georgia State is a 17-sport
NCAA D-I athletics program, with the football team participating
at the "club" level. The 2003 season will be Georgia
State's second as a club team.
The Stillman vs. Lincoln game will be the fourth of the series
with the Tigers holding a 2-1 edge. In the first meeting
in 2000 Lincoln beat Stillman 30-24 in Jefferson City, MO.
The following season Stillman held on for a 28-21-homecoming
victory. Stillman then beat Lincoln 58-14 in 2002.
For the remainder of the home game schedule Stillman will host
Edward Waters College on Oct. 11 and Lane College for this
year's homecoming game on Nov. 8. In the third annual Steel
City Classic, which will be played at Birmingham's Legion
Field against Miles College on Oct. 4, Stillman will be the
home team.
Stillman will begin the 2003 road game schedule on Sept. 6
as the Tigers travel to Florence, AL to face the University
of North Alabama. The following week the Tigers will travel
to Livingston, AL to face the University of West Alabama.
On Sept. 20 Stillman will make its first out-of-state road
trip of the season when the Tigers travel to Mars Hill, NC
to face Mars Hill College. Stillman will make its longest
road trip of the season on Oct. 18 when the Tigers face Kentucky
State University in Frankfort, KY. On Nov. 1 the Tigers will
face Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, GA. Stillman
will end its season in Georgia when the Tigers face Clark
Atlanta University on Nov. 15.
