The Fort Valley State University Department of Athletics recently
released the 2004 Wildcat football schedule. Fort Valley will
play four home games, three games at neutral sites, and four
games on the road. The Wildcats’ schedule will also feature
a new non-conference opponent in Elizabeth City State. Elizabeth
City, a member of the CIAA, replaces Alcorn State University,
which had to discontinue the series due to other scheduling
obligations.
Football action gets started for FVSU at the annual Peach State
Kick-Off Classic held in Macon, Georgia (8/28). This year’s
edition of the classic will feature the Wildcats facing the
Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College. After that, the Wildcats
will be on the road for three straight weeks with games at
Winston Salem State (9/4), Lane (9/11) and in Brunswick against
Clark Atlanta University (9/18) for the second annual Stan
Lomax Gold Coast Classic. Fort Valley will travel to Birmingham,
Alabama to face Miles College (10/2). Starting with Kentucky
State on Oct. 9, the ‘Cats will be at home for three
straight weeks which include games against Tuskegee (Oct. 16)
and the Homecoming game against Elizabeth City State (10/23),
a newcomer on the schedule. The Wildcats will close regular
season play with games at Stillman (10/30) and the annual “Showdown
before Sundown” against Albany State at the Fountain
City Classic on November 6.
Fort Valley’s football schedule will also feature two
special events. On September 25, the annual High School and
Take a Kid to a Game Day will be observed when the Wildcats
host the Tigers of Benedict College. On October 16, Parents’ Day
will be held when the Wildcats host the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee
University.
Last season, the Wildcats were 7-4 overall, 5-3 in conference
play.
