Bethune-Cookman Edged by Oregon
May 20, 2004
Kavleen Hudson's run in the bottom of the second inning was the
only score in the game, as the University of Oregon defeated
Bethune-Cookman College 1-0
in the first round of the NCAA Regionals in Tallahassee, Fla.
Pitcher Ani Nyhus (22-12) recorded the win for Oregon, while Lauren McCoy
(23-13) garnered the loss for B-CC.
In the bottom the second, the first batter Hudson tripled to left center field.
The next batter, Ann Marie Topps singled to centerfield to score Husdon for
the first run of the game.
With one out in the top of the third, Rhoenita Yancey and Shaterra Davis put
together back-to-back singles to left field, placing a scorer in running position
for the Lady Wildcats. But a strikeout and a pick-off ended the Wildcats chance
of scoring.
In the bottom of the third, the Wildcats defense would hold. With one out
Ashley Richards doubled to right field. Two batters later, Jenn Poore singled,
moving Prichards to third base. The next batter, Dani Baird popped out to the
short stop for the final out.
The Lady 'Cats threatened to score again in the top of the fourth inning.
With two outs, Krista Schile walked then advanced to second on a single by
Jaime Tanksley. Third baseman Tiala Tagaloa then fouled out to the left fielder
for the final out.
B-CC tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh. With only one out
and runners on first and second base, Davis lined out into a double play ending
the game for the lady 'Cats.
First baseman Krista Schile went 1-1 with a 100% on-base percentage. She was
hit by a pitch and walked in her other two at bats.
