WBA
Foundation to host Black College All-Star Showcase
October 15, 2003
Atlanta, GA – World Basketball Association President, Leroy
McMath announced today that the WBA
Foundation will
host their first National Black College All Star Basketball
Showcase on April 24th, 2004
in Atlanta, GA. “This is a much needed event that will
showcase the top 24 athletes from historical Black Colleges
from across the country,” stated McMath.
“Historically, Black College basketball players have
been over looked when it comes to traditional college all-star
games, and the WBA Foundation is taking the opportunity to
provide an outlet to make this a consistent reality,” McMath
continued.
The showcase will be held on the campus of Morehouse College
(Atlanta, GA) on Saturday, April 24th at 7:00 pm. The mission
of the event is to create an avenue for athletes who have not
only achieved academically, but also who have displayed superior
athletic ability throughout their collegiate career. “The
purpose of the National Black College All Star Basketball Showcase
is to expose them to both US and International Scouts,” said
McMath. “We want them to have every opportunity that
is possibly available.”
The showcase will not only include basketball fun, but the
entertainment will include a Half-time show which will feature
a dunk contest, a 3-point shoot out, a 10 minute performance
by a national recording artist (to be announced), celebrity
guest appearances, door prizes and give-aways. The MVP will
receive $1,000 to be donated to their school’s athletic
program. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to
an inner city youth organization. Negotiations are in process
for a national cable network to televise the event.
