MEAC
and New Vision Sports sued
April 12, 2005
In an article published on Page 13 of its print publicaton, SportsBusinessJournal has
reported that a suit has been filed against the Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference and its marketing agent, New Vision Sports
Properties by a television production and distributon company,
Integrated Sports Media LLC.
According to the article, the suit alledges that the conference
and the agency have refused to pay for broadcast services for
MEAC football games produced and distributed by Integrated
Sports Media (ISM). The suit was filed in North Carolina Superior
Court in Guilford County.
According to Lut Williams, president of ISM, six live telecasts
and three delayed broadcasts of MEAC football games were aired
last fall. New Vision had agreed to pay ISM $561,000 for the
work.
MEAC attorney Charles Blackmon was quoted as saying "We
are planning swift and aggressive action against ISM, and we
are not ruling out a countersuit against them for breach of
contract with the conference."
New Vision co-founder Steve Malcolm said "If indeed ISM
has chosen to resolve this matter in the courts, I only hope
they're prepared to do battle. Their claims are completely
false and without legal precedent."
"Our demands for payment have been outstanding since
October of last year," said ISM attorney Larry Hall. "We
have yet to receive a notice from them that we breached the
contract in any way."
Editor's note: Lut Williams is also publisher of the Black
College Sports Page which appears weekly on this web site.
