MVSU-GSU
football game moved from Chicago to Itta Bena
August 19, 2004
ITTA BENA, Miss. – Mississippi Valley State University
has announced that their game with Grambling State, originally
scheduled as the Chicago Classic, has been moved to Itta Bena.
According to Lonza Hardy Jr., MVSU's director of athletics,
the move was prompted when problems related to transportation
of Grambling's marching band could
not be resolved. Hardy said the game, a
home contest for MVSU, will have a 5 p.m. kickoff and will
increase the number of games at Rice-Totten Stadium for the
Delta Devils from four to five.
"While we were looking forward to playing in Chicago,
we're nonetheless happy to have the opportunity to now play
five home games on our campus," said Hardy. "Our
students, faculty and staff, as well as the area communities,
will be treated to what should be an outstanding ball game.
From that perspective, it's a bonus situation for us."
MVSU fans who have purchased season tickets for the 2004
season can purchase special discounted tickets for the Grambling
game, if bought prior to October 9.
