August 14, 2004
Maryland-Eastern Shore has announced the appointment of Revonda D. Whitley as Assistant Women's Basketball
Coach. Whitley will be the first assistant and recruiting
coordinator in charge of player
development, budgeting, and scheduling, among other duties,
for the Lady Hawks.
She rejoins Fred Batchelor,
for whom she was an assistant at Elizabeth City State. Batchelor was named head coach in April.
"Coach Whitley is a dream to work with. She
knows the game, has an incredible work ethic, and will make a difference in this program," said
Batchelor.
While serving at ECSU Whitley also served as Head Volleyball Coach, supervising interns,
recruiting, and overseeing the entire program. She also taught in the Physical Education
Department at ECSU.
Before taking the Elizabeth City post, Whitley was the Girls Basketball Coach
and life skills program coordinator at the Timmerman School in Columbia, SC.
While her focus has been on women's basketball, Whitley also served as a boys
13-16 AAU program assistant coach in Columbia.
Whitley is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the Black Coaches
Association, and the American Volleyball Coaches Association. She received a Bachelor of Arts
from Winthrop University and a Master of Science in Human Performance and Sport Studies
from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
