Norfolk State fires football coach and reassigns
athletics director
December 16, 2004
Norfolk State University has terminated head football coach
Willie Gillus and reassigned athletics director Orby Moss.
The announcement was made at a press conference December
16 by NSU president Marie McDemmond.
“Several factors contributed to the university’s
decision to remove Gillus, including a number of football
violations recently reported by NSU to the NCAA,”
McDemmond said in a prepared statement.
Apparently Moss’ decision to step down was his own.
“He realizes it is time for NSU’s athletic
programs to have a fresh start. I have assigned him as Special
Assistant to the President, and he will conduct special projects
as assigned by me”, said McDemmond.
Longtime baseball coach Marty Miller was named Acting AD effective
immediately.
