JCSU top administration and music staff gave nothing but rave reviews on his
abilities to play various instruments and also compose music. "I think
he can take our marching band to another level as well as develop a great jazz
program," said Johnson C. Smith University President Dorothy Cowser Yancy,
Ph.D. "We are excited about him choosing Smith."
JCSU Music and Fine Arts Coordinator Dr. Gregory Thompson described Lee as
a talented and energetic gentleman. "I believe that he will prove to be
a tremendous asset to the music department and to the institution. He brings
a wealth of knowledge and skill with him in the area of assisting with bands
and in writing and arranging for instrumental ensembles."
Former JCSU Band Director Marvin W. Davenport said he heard some of Lee's
work which impressed him. "I believe he will be good for Johnson C. Smith.
He played a quick sample for me on the piano and it said a lot to me."
Lee , who starts July 19, replaces former band director Duncan Gray
