Albany State announces 2005 football schedule
March 22, 2005
Albany State University (ASU) Athletics Director Dr. John I.
Davis and Head Football Coach Mike White have announced the 2005
Golden Rams football schedule.
Albany State’s 10-game slate includes four home games
at the Albany Municipal Coliseum, the Golden Rams’ state-of-the-art
football facility located on the campus, a game against the
national championship team, a football classic game and a game
against a Division 1-AA opponent.
The Golden Rams, who played their most successful season with
an 11-1 record in 2004, will kick off the season with two back-to-back
road games, beginning Aug. 27 against the Miles College Golden
Bears at 6 p.m. (cst) in Birmingham, Ala. The following weekend,
the Golden Rams will travel to play the NCAA Division II National
Champions, Valdosta State University Blazers, on Sept. 3 with
a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The Golden Rams make their home debut on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.
against the Kentucky State University Thorobreds, before traveling
to Jackson, Tenn., to take on the Lane College Dragons on Sept.
17. New to the Golden Rams schedule is a game against the SWAC’s
Southern University Jaguars on Sept. 24 in Baton Rouge, La.,
at 7 p.m. The Golden Rams return home to face SIAC foe, Tuskegee
University on Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. Albany State will have an open
weekend on Oct. 8, and will return to gridiron action on Oct.
15 when they travel to Atlanta, Ga., to play the Clark Atlanta
University Panthers at 1:30 p.m.
The Golden Rams will return home for two-back-to-back games,
on Oct. 22 for the 2005 Homecoming game against the Benedict
College Tigers at 1:30 p.m., and on Oct. 29 against the Morehouse
College Maroon Tigers at 7p.m.
The Golden Rams will wrap up its regular season against conference
rival, Fort Valley State University Wildcats, on Nov. 5 at
1:30 p.m. in Columbus, Ga., in the 16th Annual Fountain City
Classic, which is touted as one of the biggest and best black
college football classics.
“We had a great season last year, perhaps our most successful
season. We captured our second consecutive SIAC title and made
an impressive appearance in the playoffs,” Davis said. “Our
only loss during the season was in the playoffs to Valdosta
State, a team we defeated earlier in the season and who eventually
won the national title. That says a lot about our program and
the type of athletes we are producing at Albany State. We promise
another exciting season of Golden Rams’ action-packed
football.”
