Bowie State releases Russell Davis

May 11, 2005

(BOWIE, MARYLAND) Bowie State University has announced that head women’s basketball coach Russell Davis has been relieved of his duties, effective immediately.

“After careful consideration and evaluation, it has been decided a leadership change in our women’s basketball program is necessary at this time,” said Athletic Director Derek Carter. “We want to thank Coach Davis for his five years of service to Bowie State University and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Davis just completed his fifth season at Bowie State, and ended the 2004-2005 season with a record of 16-12 and 9-6 in the conference. During his tenure, the Lady Bulldogs advanced to the CIAA Tournament quarterfinals in 2004 and 2005. In his first season in 2000-2001, Davis went 9-18, followed by 12-14 in 2001-2002, 12-15 in 2002-2003 and 14-15 in 2003-2004. Davis’ career record at Bowie State is 64-75.

The Department of Athletics will begin the search for a new head coach of the Lady Bulldogs immediately.
