Lincoln (MO) three-peats as DII Women's Outdoor Track Champions

May 29,2005

Abilene, TX -- Lincoln (MO) University three-peated as NCAA Division II Women's Outdoor National Track Champions Saturday night at Abilene Christian's Elmer Gray Stadium.

The Abilene Christian University men -- who won the title with 109 points, 25 better than runner-up Adams State -- captured their fourth straight outdoor championship and 15th NCAA Division II outdoor championship overall. The national title was ACU's 53rd overall national track and field championship.

The Lincoln women won their third straight national championship with 108 points to 53 points for runner-up Cal State-Bakersfield. The ACU women finished third with 45.50 points, while St. Augustine's was fourth with 42 points.

The Blue Tiger ladies from Jefferson City, MO won three events thanks to the contributions of Olympic sprinter Shandria Brown. Brown, who is a 7-time national champion in the 100 and 200m dash and 4x100-meter relay, captured the 100m title, 200m crown and anchored the winning 4X100m relay team.

St. Augustine's picked up two national titles enroute their fourth place finish. Johnsie Liles won the 400m dash and joined teammates Erica Young, Kim Moore and Jessica Render to win the 4X400m relay.

Fort Valley State's Lynnsey Dailey had an eventful day. The SIAC Track Athlete of the year captured national titles in three events; winning the 100m hurdles, 400m hurdles and triple jump. She also finished sixth in the 100m dash to account for all 33 of her team's points. FVSU finished sixth overall.

Albany State's Levern Spencer won the high jump title. The SIAC Field Athlete of the Year outjumped defending champ Nikki Hill of Clark Atlanta to win the event.

On the men's side, perennial CIAA champion St. Augustine's captured three national titles on the way to its third place finish. Adrian Findlay win the 400m hurdles. Fabian Hutchinson finished first in the long jump and Unyime Akpan won the 110m hurdles.

Brandon Roulhac won the triple jump and the Golden Ram team of Rodney Coley, Sterling Gray, Dontrel Williams and Bolden took the 4X100m relay title. The Golden Rams finished fifth overall with 40 points.

The HBCU workhorses of the meet were Lincoln's Decosma Wright and Morehouse's Cameron Dayne.

After finishing second in the decathlon, which concluded on Thursday, Wright came back Saturday to finish fourth in the 110m hurdles and run the anchor leg on the Blue Tiger's second place 4X100m relay team. Lincoln finished just ahead of Albany State in fourth place with 41.5 points.

Dayne picked up points in five separate events for the Maroon Tigers. The SIAC Student-Athlete of the Year finished fourth in the 100m dash, eighth in the 200m dash, third in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump. He anchored the Morehouse 4X100m relay team which finished sixth overall. Dayne personally contributed 17 of Morehouse's 32 points in the meet. The Maroon Tigers finished in a tie for 7th overall.
