Basketball Tipoff Luncheon to feature Bishop Eddie Long
September 29, 2004
Atlanta, Georgia—Bishop Eddie Long, Senior Pastor of
New Birth Missionary Baptist Church will be the guest speaker
at the 2004 SIAC Annual Basketball Tip-off Luncheon. The Southern
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will be hosting its Annual
Basketball Tip-Off Luncheon October 6, 2004 at the Atlanta
Hilton Hotel, 255 Courtland Street NE Atlanta, Georgia. This
luncheon is held annually as a prelude to the exciting SIAC
Basketball season and to give the media an opportunity to meet
coaches and players of the conference.
There are eleven schools in the Southern Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (Albany State University, Benedict College,
Clark Atlanta University, Fort Valley State University, Kentucky
State University, Lane College, LeMoyne Owen College, Miles
College, Morehouse College, Paine College, and Tuskegee University).
Stillman College is presently a provisional member and will
have full membership in 2005.
SIAC Commissioner, William E. Lide said, “Having Bishop
Long as our guest speaker is a continuation of our efforts
to ensure that we do more for our young men and women than
just offer them an opportunity to play sports. We want to
show them how blessed they are and can be by using the medium
of sports. Teams pray before games and participate in spiritual
rituals for success and safety. It is important to us that
we expose our youngsters to quality spiritual values.”
This event is invitation only. Those wishing to attend should
contact the SIAC office.
