Fort Valley State announces 2006 Football Schedule

April 21, 2006

The Fort Valley State University Department of Athletics has released its schedule for the 2006 football season. A total of 10 games, seven of them counting towards play in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, are on the docket. Two SIAC teams (Morehouse and Kentucky State) are on the schedule, but those games will not count towards Fort Valley’s record in conference play.

Football action will kick off in Atlanta, Georgia when the Wildcats face the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University on the CAU campus (8/26). The first of two games in Wildcat Stadium will be played when the Wildcats host the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College (9/2). That game will also be celebrated as Medical Professionals/Military Appreciation Day. After the game against Morehouse, the Wildcats will then travel to Valdosta, Georgia to face the Blazers of Valdosta State University (9/9). The Wildcats will stay on the road the following week (9/16) as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to play the Golden Bears of Miles College. Fort Valley’s final game during the month of September (9/23) will be against the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University in Macon, Georgia.

Fort Valley State will open the month of October with another trip to Alabama, this time to the city of Tuscaloosa to play the Tigers of Stillman College (10/7). After an open date, the grandest occasion on a college campus (Homecoming) will be celebrated when the Wildcats host the Tigers of Benedict College (10/21). Jackson, Tennessee will be the site of Fort Valley’s next game as the Wildcats take on the Dragons of Lane College (10/28).

November will see the Wildcats play two games. The first (11/4) will pit the Wildcats against the Golden Rams of Albany State University in the 17th edition of the Fountain City Classic. That game, now considered by many to be one of bigger games in the Southeast, will be played at McClung-Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Georgia. Fort Valley State will close out regular season play on Nov. 11 when the Wildcats travel to Frankfort, Kentucky to play the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University.

Last season, the Wildcats were 7-3 overall and were third in the SIAC with a 5-2 record.
