Norfolk State's 2006 Football Schedule features seven home games

April 21, 2006

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State University has released its 2006 football schedule with seven of its 11 games, including all three non-conference contests, scheduled for to be played at Dick Price Stadium.

"We're really excited to be playing so many games at home," said NSU head coach Pete Adrian. "The players will be rested and will get to play a lot in front of their friends and family."

NSU kicks off the season by hosting the annual Virginia Lottery Labor Day Classic with Virginia State on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m. VSU has won the last three meetings in the series.

One week later, NSU will host Virginia Military Institute at 6 p.m. The Keydets prevailed in Lexington, 34-9, in the teams' only prior meeting, in 2003.

The Spartans' next eight games are against MEAC opposition. Following a bye week, NSU opens conference action on Sept. 23 at Bethune-Cookman. It will be Adrian's first game back in Daytona Beach, Fla., since leaving his assistant post at B-CC.

The annual Fish Bowl Classic is Sept. 30 at Dick Price Stadium against North Carolina A&T.  NSU then embarks on back-to-back road games with the MEAC's top teams from 2005, South Carolina State (Oct. 7) and Hampton (Oct. 14).

The Spartans have three of their final four MEAC games at home, beginning Oct. 21 with Florida A&M. Following a road date at Howard on Oct. 28, NSU hosts Morgan State for homecoming 2006 on Nov. 4, then caps conference play with Delaware State on Nov. 11.

NSU concludes its 2006 season against another old CIAA rival, Winston-Salem State, at Dick Price Stadium on Nov. 18. The teams have played 18 times in their history, with each side winning eight times to go with two ties.

The Spartans and WSSU have not played each other since 1996, the Spartans' last year in Division II. The Rams have begun the transition from Division II to Division I status.
