New date makes Aggie-Eagle Football Classic
only HBCU game anywhere
August 8, 2005
RALEIGH - The annual Aggie-Eagle Football Classic, featuring
historic rivals North Carolina A&T State University (NCA&T)
and North Carolina Central University (NCCU), was ranked as the
largest HBCU football game in North Carolina in 2004, and the
16th largest (of 48) in the country. With the new Monday, Sept.
5 game date, the Aggie-Eagle hopes to generate more growth by
being the only Historically Black College and University Classic
in the country being played that day. Kick-off is at NC State’s
Carter-Finley Stadium is 1:30 p.m., stadium gates open at noon,
tailgating begins at 9:00 a.m., and games tickets include the
price of parking.
With the departure of the CIAA Tournament, the Aggie-Eagle
Classic is now the largest HBCU sporting event in the Triangle
and in the fall, will be the only game in town for fans to
enjoy the pageantry and pomp of the HBCU football experience.
“The date change of the Aggie-Eagle Classic is an important
detail for fans to know, but the more important thing is that
it offers depth to an already exciting weekend,” said
Lawrence Wray, chairman of Capital Area Sports Foundation and
assistant city manager of the City of Raleigh. “In 2004
we created the all-inclusive ticket, and in 2005, we are able
to offer the fans a more complete weekend with events Saturday,
the Soul Fest concert at Alltel Pavilion Sunday, and the game
on Monday.”
The Aggie-Eagle, well known for its day-long tailgating parities
and intense gridiron battles, established an all-inclusive
game day ticket that includes parking, unlimited tailgating,
kids and vendors pavilion, as well as a ticket to the football
game in 2004 to make the experience more seamless for fans.
The new date in 2005, hopefully, will complete a full Labor
Day weekend for fans with events beginning Saturday with a
Carnival and Battle of the Bands in downtown Raleigh, as well
as the Step Show that night. .
In addition to the new date, the Classic will be able to offer
more amenities to fans with the opening of Vaughn Towers at
Carter-Finley Stadium with box suites and club seating. With
new room to grow, the Aggie-Eagle Football Classic will continue
to raise significant scholarship dollars for NCA&T and
NCCU’s athletic programs.
Advanced tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com and NCCU and NCA&T ticket box offices. For more information
