MEAC Tournament Ticket Pre-Sales ahead
of previous years
February 16, 2006
[Raleigh, NC] – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) announced today that it has sold several thousand ticket
books for its annual basketball tournament during pre-tournament
sales, dramatically more than it sold in prior years. The tournament
will be held for the first time in Raleigh this year, from
March 6-11 at the RBC Center.
In past years, MEAC tickets have always sold through MEAC
schools or at the gate, with only a handful sold directly to
the public as presales. The Raleigh tournament has energized
the fan base in an unprecedented way, with more than 2500 ticket
books sold directly to consumers during the weeks ahead of
the first tip off.
“The response in terms of tickets sold is unprecedented.
The MEAC fan base is clearly energized over this year’s
tournament,” said MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. “With
presales going this well, we are right on track to surpass
our expectations in terms of ticket sales. We anticipate as
the tournament approaches, walk-up sales will increase significantly.”
The MEAC also reported that hotel rooms for the tournament
week are also selling better than they’ve seen before,
indicating that many people have already made plans to come
and watch the tournament. Four of the official MEAC hotels
are completely sold out.
