SCSU AD and foootball coach get contract
extensions

Orangeburg, SC - The South Carolina State athletics director
and head football coach have both been awarded contract extensions.
The announcements came during the university's annual Board
of Trustees retreat in Charleston.
Charlene Johnson, who is in her third year as athletics director,
received a three- year extension, which begins July 1, 2006
and will run to June 30, 2009. Terms of Johnson's agreement
were being negotiated.
Oliver "Buddy" Pough, who is in his fifth year as
head football coach, received a two-year extension that will
keep him with the university for the next five years. Pough's
new contract also begins July 1 and will extend to June. 30,
2011.
Pough's total package will be for $200,000 annually, and will
include a $175,000 base salary and $25,000 from the Buddy Pough
weekly football highlight show.
Pough thanked the administration and credited his players
and staff for the success he has enjoyed at SCSU.
"It's great to have a couple more years," Pough
said, "I'm really grateful for the confidence the administration
has demonstrated in me. But, I'm only small part of the equation
and give credit to the players, the staff and overall operations
for what we have achieved the last few seasons." Johnson
also thanked the administration for showing confidence in her
leadership and pledged to "continue to work diligently
to move the SCSU athletics department forward."
