March 13, 2006

Dover, DE --- MEAC regular season champion Delaware State (20-13), the No. 10 seed, travels to ninth seeded Northern Arizona (21-10 )in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. (ET). Northern Arizona is located in Flagstaff, AZ, about two hours north of Phoenix, and is 7,000 feet above sea level.

Delaware State would have qualified for the NCAA Tournament had it defeated Hampton in the MEAC Tournament championship game Saturday. Hampton will represent the MEAC in the NCAA Tournament.

This is the first year that the NIT has accepted regular season conference champions who fail to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. Northern Arizona (21-10) won the Big Sky Conference regular season race, but lost to Montana in the league's tournament championship game.

This will be the first meeting between Delaware State and Northern Arizona in any sport.

The winner of the DSU/NAU game will play at number-one seed Louisville (18-12) on Friday (Mar. 17).

This will be the second post-season game in Delaware State's men's basketball history. The Hornets lost to Duke 57-46 in the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
