Delaware State to face Northern
Arizona in NIT

Dover, DE --- MEAC regular season champion Delaware State
(20-13), the No. 10 seed, travels to ninth seeded Northern
Arizona (21-10 )in the opening round of the National Invitation
Tournament (NIT) Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. (ET). Northern
Arizona is located in Flagstaff, AZ, about two hours north
of Phoenix, and is 7,000 feet above sea level.
Delaware State would have qualified for the NCAA Tournament
had it defeated Hampton in the MEAC Tournament championship
game Saturday. Hampton will represent the MEAC in the NCAA
Tournament.
This is the first year that the NIT has accepted regular season
conference champions who fail to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Northern Arizona (21-10) won the Big Sky Conference regular
season race, but lost to Montana in the league's tournament
championship game.
This will be the first meeting between Delaware State and
Northern Arizona in any sport.
The winner of the DSU/NAU game will play at number-one seed
Louisville (18-12) on Friday (Mar. 17).
This will be the second post-season game in Delaware State's
men's basketball history. The Hornets lost to Duke 57-46 in
the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
