Savannah State releases 2006 football
schedule

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Savannah State University announced their
2006 football schedule on Wednesday afternoon. The schedule
features four home games, two classic appearances and seven
road experiences.
“I am excited about the schedule we have put together
for the 2006 season,” said athletic director Robert “Tony” O’Neal. “It
gives us a chance to display our talents against some quality
opponents.”
SSU will kick off their season on Sept. 2 in Columbia, S.C.
against Benedict College. The team will then travel to Daytona
Beach, Fla. to face Bethune-Cookman College on Sept. 9. This
marks the first non-classic meeting between the Tigers and
Wildcats since 1977, when both teams were members of the SIAC.
After an open week, SSU will host Liberty University in the
Joe Turner Classic on Sept. 23 at Ted Wright Stadium in Savannah,
Ga. SSU’s next home game will feature the Tigers against
Charleston Southern University on Oct. 7.
Homecoming is slated for Oct. 21 against Winston Salem State
University. SSU will play their final home game on Nov. 11
versus Edward Waters College.
“We are eager to be able to showcase our talents with
four home games,” O’Neal said. “It gives
our students, alumni, boosters and fans the opportunity to
enjoy the excitement of SSU football right here in Savannah.”
The 14th Annual CSRA Classic in Augusta, Ga. will be held on
Oct. 14 against Morehouse College. The Tigers will take on
Howard University on Sept. 30; the location of the game has
yet to be determined. The team will travel to Johnson C. Smith
on Oct. 28, then to Coastal Carolina on Nov. 4.
The Tigers will wrap up their season with a trip to San Luis
Obispo, California to take on California Polytechnic State
University on Nov. 18.
All home games will be played at Ted Wright Stadium in Savannah,
Ga.
