St. Aug to break ground on new athletic
facility

As part of its homecoming activity, Saint Augustine's College
will pay homage to Coach George Williams with a groundbreaking
ceremony for an Athletic Complex named in his honor. The ceremony
is set for Friday October 7 at 10:00am.
The purpose of the complex will be to improve the quality
of residential life for students, provide a service to the
surrounding communities and increase operational space for
Falcon Athletics. In addition to being a world-class track
and field facility, the Complex will host intramurals, youth
sports programs, and be a safe and controlled environment for
community activities. .
Phase I includes:
Nine-lane IAAF regulated track and field
Artificial Turf Infield
Press and Coaches Boxes
Restroom and Storage Facilities
Concession stands and seating
Since accepting the position of Head Track and Field Coach
for the 138-year old institution, Coach Williams has led the
Falcon Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Teams
to twenty-seven NCAA Division II Championships and over 100
CIAA Championships. Many of his student-athletes have received
All-American Awards.
One of Coach Williams’ most notable accomplishments
was leading the U.S. Men’s Track and Field Team during
the 2004 Olympic games.
