Alcorn State vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff football will kick off at 6 p.m.

September 26, 2005

ALCORN STATE, Miss. Alcorn State’s home football game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday will kick off at 6 p.m. four hours later than originally scheduled.

The change was necessitated because Hurricane Katrina evacuees remain in most of the hotel rooms in central and southwest Mississippi, which caused UAPB officials to experience travel difficulties.

The Golden Lions plan to bus from Pine Bluff to the Alcorn campus on Saturday morning.

“We wanted to make this move as a way to accommodate UAPB with their travel to the game, while also remaining sensitive to the victims of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita,” Alcorn State Athletic Director Robert Raines said. “We believe this is the best solution for all parties involved.” The Alcorn State vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff game will be the second straight night game at Jack Spinks Stadium.

Alcorn defeated Langston 24-7 on Sept. 17, at night in the home opener.

Alcorn officials had also planned to have the High School Day promotion at the stadium Saturday, but those festivities have been postponed until Saturday, Nov. 12, when Alcorn State hosts Alabama A&M.

Alcorn State (1-2 overall, 0-1 in SWAC) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-4, 0-2) are both looking for the first conference win of the season.

Hurricane Rita also prompted Alcorn officials to cancel events this past weekend involving the school’s soccer and golf programs.
