Gulf Coast Classic Football Game Remains in Mobile

September 21, 2005

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Contrary to media reports, the 32nd annual Gulf Coast Classic featuring Alabama State and Southern University will be played in Mobile at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on October 1.

Kickoff has been moved to 5 p.m. to accommodate television coverage by College Sports TV (CSTV) and PAX/i., which will broadcast the game into 90 million homes in the United States and internationally.

Tickets are still available for purchase through the Alabama State University ticket office and Ticketmaster, or by calling (334) 229-4551 or (800) 277-1700.

The Alabama State-Southern football rivalry has been one of the best in Black College Football over the last couple of years, as the two teams have battled for the last two Southwestern Athletic Conference championships.

Last season, Southern – making its first trip to Montgomery in 10 years – erased a 20-point deficit in the fourth quarter to pull out a 42-41 win. The Hornets, though, got the biggest form of revenge in December with a come-from-behind, 40-35 win at SWAC Championship Game VI in Birmingham, Ala.
